Read John 10:22-42. Jesus in John 10:22-42 teaches to the Jewish people in the temple again and he tells them to believe in him because of his works, namely because his works fulfill the words of Isaiah the prophet in Isaiah 35:3-6. The Jews knew these prophecies were about the Messiah but did not believe in Jesus despite them.
In this instance and many others the Jewish leaders of his day had set aside the Scriptures and made their own opinions more important than the word of God.
Today too many churches do just like the Jewish leaders did and set aside or twist portions of scripture so that their personal opinions can triumph over God’s word. However the Bible teaches that if leaders in the Church choose to be openly living in a sinful lifestyle this choice disqualifies them from leadership. However there are many churches which do not believe that as they allow church leaders to be living sinful lifestyle including but not limited to living as a transgender person, being in any type of sexual relationship outside of the bounds of Christian marriage, ongoing addictions, and other unrepentant sins.
God has given us his word to shape us and we are to obey all of it, even the parts that tell us to act differently than the world around us for God. We must allow God’s word to shape every person in the church, no one is above rebuke and correction except God himself. As disciples of Jesus Christ it should be our goal to become more like Christ and to make new disciples. If we are striving to set a good example for others but our deeds do not match our words then we live a double-minded life instead of one of integrity. Choose to live a life of integrity following Jesus. Read the Bible and obey its teachings and become more like Jesus.
