Read John 20:1-29
The classic song Go Tell It On The Mountain tells the story in its first 3 verses of the shepherds hearing of Jesus’ birth from angels and of Jesus’ birth. In the refrain, the part of the song I remember singing as a little kid in a Christmas play at my church, we are called to share the good news of Jesus’ birth to the world.
This is important and is something that we should all be doing but not just should we share the good news of Jesus’ birth but also the good news of his death and rebirth. The verses sing of the shepherds but we also should share the message of the birth of Jesus Christ over the hills and everywhere.
And not just his birth that we celebrate on Christmas but also him being born again on Easter. Easter was the day of Jesus’ resurrection or as other places say in the Bible the day of Jesus’ rebirth. The Bible in Revelation 1:5 says this about Jesus Christ:
“and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.”
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the firstborn from the dead, the first to be raised from the dead into new life. He was born again on that Easter morning.
Thinking back to Go Tell It On The Mountain I feel like we could sing nearly the same refrain and add more another verse to it to sing of Jesus’ rebirth.
This classic hymn sings of the shepherds meeting the savior born but we very well could sing of the savior being born again
Crucified on Friday, and then buried in a tomb,
Rose from the grave on Sunday, reborn to save the world
Go tell it on the mountain over the hills and everywhere;
go, tell it the mountain that Jesus Christ is born again
The words from the original song and this new addition are not to be ignored, we are to go tell it. We should be those who tell everyone everywhere the good news about Jesus's birth and rebirth to spread the good news to the whole world. Like Mary Magdalene went and told the message to the disciples and and then after Jesus met with the disciples they too shared the message to the world let us be those go tell the message of Jesus’ birth and rebirth on the mountain. Let us go tell it over the hills. Let us go tell it everywhere that Jesus Christ was born and he was born again.
Have a blessed week and join us in praying 4533 for the 419 and reading 1 Samuel 21-31, Luke 9-12, Psalm 119, and Proverbs 21 for our church Bible reading plan.
