John 13:18-13:30, Acts 6:2-4
How Much Time Do You Spend With God?

Read John 13:18-30

Throughout Jesus's Ministry he had chosen 12 apostles but among those 12 there was three that seemed to be extra special to him, Peter, James and John.  They were the ones who saw Jesus transfigured, they were the ones he invited to pray with him in the Garden, they were the ones who would later become leaders of the church. Perhaps it's because Peter and John are likely the sources of the books of the Gospels but it seems like Peter, James and John are the disciples who we hear the most about.

Because of their closeness with the Lord they were able to see more than those who are far from him.  While all of the disciples were perplexed about when this was going to happen Jesus told John and Peter that Judas was the one who was going to betray him.

Today, although Jesus may not be walking among us since he has left, we have God the Holy Spirit who lives inside us as believers. We cannot get physically closer to God but we can draw near to God and spend time with him and as we do God will reveal more of himself to us.

As we read our Bibles, God teaches us about his character. As we spend time in prayer listening to him we learn more about his heart for us. As we spend time in worship we can at times feel a glimpse of his glory. As we minister to others God empowers the ministry that we get to do as we see him changing lives bringing salvation to the Lost and healing to the hurting.

But if we only draw near to God on Sunday mornings if we don't spend time with God at other times then what are we doing? If we don't spend time reading our bibles, if we don't spend time in prayer, if we don’t spend time in worship, if we don't spend time ministering to others, if we don't spend time on mission for Jesus then we miss so much of what God has for us.

This week with the Fair and Labor Day and everything else I know life is busy. I know time gets away on us but will you spend some more time with God?  Will you spend some more time in prayer?  Will you spend some more time reading your Bible?  Will you spend some more time worshiping?  Will you spend some more time ministering?  Will you spend some more time with God?
