What The Holy Spirit Does

Read John 15:26-16:15 The Holy Spirit testifies about Jesus to the world through the Bible and to God with the spirit of believers, He proves the world to be in the wrong about sin, righteousness and judgment and He guides into all truth. He does all of these things when he comes and more. These are just a small portion of what the Holy Spirit does when he comes.

When it comes to righteousness the Holy Spirit will prove the world wrong about righteousness.

The world, even today, believes in righteousness; unbelievers and believers alike magnify the good works of people. The world believes you are righteous if you do more good deeds than "unrighteous" people. The world view of differing degrees of righteousness is different compared to what Jesus offers believers and what the Bible teaches. God demands total and complete righteousness. People who live a life of sacrifice and good deeds are more righteous than others but still they are far less righteous than God requires and what Jesus was and is. The world believes in relative righteousness, someone is more or less righteous than another. However, God’s standard of righteousness is absolute. The Holy Spirit proves the world wrong by declaring that you are either righteous or not. You are either completely righteous or not at all. You are not made righteous by any good deed but solely by faith in Jesus. Good deeds should be a part of a believer's life but they are not what make us righteous; our faith in Jesus does. Believers are righteous because God puts the attribute of righteous-ness on us as a free gift of grace. God declares us righteous because we believe in Jesus, this is what his sacrifice once and for all did for us.

This week, I would encourage you to take time to invite the Holy Spirit in. If you do not know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, put your faith in Him and invite the Holy Spirit to testify with your Spirit that you are one of God’s children. Invite the Holy Spirit to convict you of any sin or any feelings of works-based righteousness. Invite the Holy Spirit to help you to better understand the scriptures as you read the Bible. Invite the Holy Spirit for whatever else he may do as well as you surrender your life to God and follow His leading.

Have a blessed week and join us in praying 4533 for the 419 and reading Joshua 1-12, Mark 9-16, Psalm 79-84, and Proverbs 14 for our church Bible reading plan.
