Christmas is in a mere four days and this morning I want to know are you merry this Christmas or not?  When you hear the Little Drummer Boy sung this year do you think Bah ha ha hum bug bah ha ha hum bug bah ha ha hum bug or do you sing the right words pa rum pum pum pum, me and my drum? Is your attitude one of joy or is it something else? In our lives we all have a choice in the way we carry ourselves and the attitude we approach the world with so what are you choosing this Christmas.

The Bible and many songs of Christmas tell us to choose joy. One of the most famous songs about joy is “Joy to the World.” This one of the most upbeat and joy filled songs of Christmas and it declares in the first verse

“Joy to the World the Lord is come; Let Earth receive her King;

Let ev'ry heart prepare him room, And heav'n and nature sing.”

The joy that this song sings about should be radiating from us all throughout the Christmas season.

The Bible says in the Book of Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Lord that we serve the Lord who was born to a virgin, as we remember on Christmas, is the god of Hope. He has given us great hope that if we believe in Him that we will have eternal life because He came for us, He lived for us, He died for us and He was raised from the dead for us.

And in Him we can find joy and peace as we trust in God. We should not be trusting gifts or treats or decorations or parties or anything else this season to bring us joy and peace but instead we should be trusting in our Lord, God Almighty.

If you ever feel discouraged this Christmas season remember that God gave joy to the world and He continues to give joy to you as you trust in Him so that you may be filled to overflowing by that power of the Holy Spirit.

One of the Fruits of the Spirit of God is joy and this Christmas season trust in the Lord who is good, who is faithful, and who is always with you to give you joy and peace. As you experience joy and peace, share the good news just like the Shepherds did after meeting the newborn baby Jesus. Overflow with hope sharing the hope of the world, the joy of the world, the good news  of Jesus's birth.

Choose to trust in the Lord and as you do so he will give you peace  and joy in all circumstances. Choose an attitude of joy this Christmas.
